How EchoVox Works: An EVP & Spirit Box Guide from 13 Years of Field Investigation

I didn't build EchoVox because I wanted another ghost app on the Play Store. I built it because after 200+ documented investigations with the Indian Paranormal Society, I got tired of tools that were either scientifically sloppy or dressed up in horror-movie gimmicks instead of real instrumentation.

This post breaks down what EchoVox actually does, and why each feature exists the way it does — not as a sales pitch, but as the same explanation I'd give a fellow investigator.

Most spirit box and EVP apps on the market do one of two things badly:

• They generate random noise or audio and call it "detection," with zero transparency on what's happening under the hood.
• They borrow scientific-sounding language (EMF, ITC, frequency scanning) without any real measurement behind it.

A magnetometer reading means nothing without a baseline. Ambient electromagnetic fields vary by location, wiring, appliances, even weather — so EchoVox calibrates against the ambient EMF baseline the moment you start the meter, before showing you live readings.

Anything flagged as elevated, high, or extreme is measured relative to that baseline, not an arbitrary fixed number. The 60-second history graph exists for the same reason: a single spike means nothing. A pattern across time means something.

The recorder captures audio with waveform visualization and lets you mark anomalies with timestamps during live recording — because in the field, you don't have time to scrub back through a full session later trying to remember when something happened.

It also supports extended frequency capture up to 48kHz, since some of the most debated EVP content sits above normal human hearing range.

The AM/FM scan with adjustable sweep rate and direction isn't there for atmosphere — it's there so you can control and reproduce your scanning conditions, which matters if you're trying to build any kind of evidentiary consistency across sessions.

Every response gets logged with a timestamp, so post-session analysis isn't guesswork.

This is the most experimental piece — an intelligent ITC feature where you ask a question directly and the system analyzes signal and responds through voice synthesis.

I want to be upfront: this is the feature I'd classify as exploratory, not evidentiary. Treat it the way you'd treat any spirit box response — as a prompt for further investigation, not a conclusion.

Inside the app's Research Library, EVP responses are broken down using the same Class A/B/C framework used in serious ITC research — Class A being clearly intelligible without enhancement, agreed on by multiple listeners, requiring no processing.

This isn't decoration. It's the same rigor Rev. Gaurav Tiwari drilled into IPS from the start: rule out the mundane, document everything, and never inflate a Class C response into something it isn't.

Because the paranormal field has a credibility problem, and half of it is self-inflicted — by apps and investigators overselling weak evidence. EchoVox won't fix that industry-wide, but it's my attempt to build a tool that respects the people using it enough to be honest about what it can and can't tell you.
